Private Grampians tour FAQs

What makes this a private Grampians tour?

The vehicle and local hiking guide are exclusively for your group, with up to 10 guests. You can follow our recommended Grampians hiking itinerary or contact us before booking to discuss changes to the walks, stops and focus of the day.

How much does the private tour cost?

The recommended private Grampians day tour costs AUD $1,500 per vehicle for up to 10 guests. That is the total tour price for your group, not a per-person rate. Lunch, drinks and personal expenses are purchased separately. If you would like a customised itinerary, we will confirm the plan and price before you book.

Is hotel pickup included?

Hotel pickup is included in Melbourne CBD and at accommodation within approximately 5 km by road of the CBD. Send us your accommodation address before booking so we can confirm whether it is within the pickup area. The distance is by road, rather than a straight-line radius.

Where do we meet if we are outside the hotel pickup area?

Our usual central meeting point is 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. We will confirm your pickup location and departure time before the tour.

Can we customise the itinerary?

Yes. Contact us beforehand with your preferred date, group size, interests and walking abilities. We can discuss changes to the route, hiking and stops, subject to travel time, conditions and what is practical in a day. Please arrange significant changes before booking.

How much hiking is involved?

The recommended itinerary includes approximately 6.5 km of walking across the day. The Pinnacle hike is around 4.2 km return through the Grand Canyon and Silent Street, and MacKenzie Falls adds roughly 2 km of steep walking. Distances may change with an agreed customised route.

How difficult are the walks?

The recommended day includes Grade 3 walking with uneven rocky terrain, steps, steep sections and some scrambling. Everyone in the group should have a reasonable level of fitness. MacKenzie Falls involves a steep descent and climb back up. Tell us about any concerns before booking so we can discuss the right route.

Can you cater for different walking abilities?

Let us know the walking experience and needs of everyone in your group, including any children, before booking. We can discuss a less strenuous itinerary where practical. The standard Pinnacle and MacKenzie Falls route is not step-free, and a private booking does not change the terrain.

Where do we have lunch?

We stop in Beaufort for coffee and to buy lunch to carry in your day bag. On the recommended itinerary, we enjoy lunch at The Pinnacle. Your guide may choose a different lunch spot if weather or trail conditions make that more suitable. Lunch and drinks are purchased separately.

What time does the tour depart and return?

For the recommended itinerary, we suggest leaving Melbourne at approximately 7:30 AM and returning around 7:30 PM. Exact times depend on your pickup location, agreed route, traffic and conditions. This is a full day with a substantial drive in each direction.

Will we definitely see kangaroos?

We look for wild kangaroos around Halls Gap, where they are commonly seen. They are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

What happens in bad weather?

Mountain weather, park conditions and track closures can affect the route. Your guide may change walks or viewpoints when needed for safety and conditions. We will discuss any significant changes with you.

What should we bring?

Bring comfortable hiking shoes or trainers with good grip, water, warm layers, a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Each person should have a small day bag with space for the lunch bought in Beaufort. Let us know about dietary requirements before the tour.

Can we bring luggage?

Vehicle storage is limited. Please contact us before booking if you need to bring anything larger than a small day bag.

How do we book, and what are the cancellation terms?

Send an enquiry with your preferred date, number of guests, pickup address and any itinerary requests. We will confirm availability, the itinerary, price and private-tour booking and cancellation terms before you book.
