Maximum 10 travellers
No big coaches or disappearing into a crowd. Small groups mean a more personal, relaxed and social day in the mountains.

The Grampians, for the adventurous.
Hike through the Grand Canyon and Silent Street to The Pinnacle, descend to MacKenzie Falls and search for wild kangaroos with a maximum of 10 travellers and a local outdoor guide.

More than a sightseeing tour.
Grampians National Park deserves more than being driven from one lookout to another. This is a proper day in the mountains — hiking through sandstone canyons, climbing to The Pinnacle, descending to one of Victoria's great waterfalls and searching for wildlife around Halls Gap.
With a maximum of 10 travellers, there's less waiting around and more time on the trails. No huge group, no microphone commentary and no spending the whole day hopping on and off a coach. Just a small group, a local outdoor guide and one of Victoria's best hiking adventures.
The Hike & Seek difference
We created Hike & Seek for travellers who want something more active, personal and adventurous than a standard big-bus day tour.
No big coaches or disappearing into a crowd. Small groups mean a more personal, relaxed and social day in the mountains.
This isn't a lookout-to-lookout sightseeing tour. Around 6.5 km of walking means you actually experience the Grampians on foot.
Hike through the Grand Canyon and Silent Street to reach one of Victoria's most iconic mountain viewpoints the way it should be reached — on foot.
We don't just admire the mountains from the roadside. Descend into the valley and experience one of Victoria's great waterfalls from below.
Halls Gap is one of our favourite places to search for wild kangaroos, and a small group gives us time to enjoy the encounter properly.
Weather, trail conditions, wildlife and the group shape every adventure. Our guides aren't following a memorised script or racing a coach timetable.
“The hike is definitely recommended! Everything went smoothly from pick-up to return! Jayda, our tour guide, had a very expert knowledge and she explained and showed us a lot! We also had a lot of fun! If you like nature and hiking, you should not miss this tour!”
Your adventure
The centrepiece of the day is the hike through the Wonderland Range to The Pinnacle. You'll move through the Grand Canyon, Silent Street and incredible sandstone country before earning one of Victoria's great mountain views.
We stop in Beaufort for coffee and to pick up lunch before hitting the trail. After lunch at The Pinnacle, we mix waterfalls, viewpoints and wildlife into a full day outdoors. Weather, trail conditions and wildlife can change, and travelling in a small group gives us the flexibility to make the most of the mountains on the day.
The adventure

Meet your local guide and a small group of fellow travellers in central Melbourne before we leave the city behind and head west towards the mountains. With a maximum of just 10 guests, the day feels more like a road trip with good company than a conventional coach tour.
Pickup:180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne

Stop in the country town of Beaufort for a coffee, a stretch and a chance to pick up lunch for the hike. Choose something to take along in your day bag — we'll enjoy lunch at The Pinnacle, surrounded by mountain views.

This is where the road trip turns into a proper mountain adventure. From Wonderland, we hike into the Grand Canyon, climbing through towering sandstone walls, rocky passages and some of the most impressive terrain on the route to The Pinnacle.

Continue through the Wonderland Range and enter Silent Street, a narrow natural corridor enclosed by tall sandstone walls. It's one of the most memorable parts of the hike and makes the final approach to The Pinnacle feel like a genuine adventure.

Reach one of the Grampians' most iconic viewpoints the best way possible — on foot. After earning the view, we'll settle in for lunch at The Pinnacle and take time to soak up the huge mountain landscape, Halls Gap and surrounding ranges before beginning the return hike.

Trade the mountain tops for one of Victoria's most spectacular waterfalls. Follow the steep trail down into the valley to experience MacKenzie Falls from below, where water crashes over huge cliffs into the gorge. The climb back up will get the legs working again — but it's absolutely worth it.

Finish the mountain exploring at Reeds Lookout or Boroka Lookout. Both offer enormous views across the Grampians, with the day's choice guided by timing, weather and local conditions. It is a final chance to take in the scale of the landscape you've spent the day exploring on foot.

Before leaving the Grampians, we'll search one of our favourite areas around Halls Gap for wild kangaroos. With a small group, we can slow down, keep our distance and spend some time actually watching them rather than treating wildlife as another quick photo stop.

Relax on the journey back to Melbourne after a proper day in the mountains — hiking through sandstone canyons, reaching The Pinnacle, chasing waterfalls, spotting wildlife and sharing the adventure with a small group of like-minded travellers.

Is this your kind of day?
If climbing through a sandstone canyon to an epic viewpoint sounds better than spending the day hopping between roadside lookouts, you'll probably fit right in.

Your local crew
Hike & Seek is a small independent Melbourne tour company created for travellers who want to properly experience Victoria's wild places. Our guides are friendly, First Aid qualified and genuinely passionate about hiking, wildlife and the landscapes we explore.
On a hiking day, your guide matters. Expect someone who knows the trail, manages the group's pace, keeps an eye on conditions and gives everyone time to enjoy the climb rather than someone simply waiting for you back at the vehicle.
Don't expect memorised commentary through a microphone. Expect conversations, local knowledge, wildlife spotting and a relaxed atmosphere with people who genuinely love being outdoors.
The essentials
Before you book
Our Grampians tour is built around actually hiking the national park rather than simply driving between viewpoints. We keep groups to a maximum of 10 travellers and hike through the Grand Canyon and Silent Street to The Pinnacle, enjoy lunch with a view, walk down to MacKenzie Falls, visit Reeds or Boroka Lookout and spend time searching for wild kangaroos around Halls Gap. It's designed for travellers who want to experience the Grampians, not just see it through a bus window.
Expect approximately 6.5 km of walking across the day. The main hike to The Pinnacle is around 4.2 km return and passes through the Grand Canyon and Silent Street. MacKenzie Falls adds another roughly 2 km of steep walking. It's a proper active day rather than a passive sightseeing tour.
The walking is generally considered Grade 3. You should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable with uneven rocky terrain, steps, short steep sections and some scrambling. Some bushwalking experience is recommended, but you don't need to be an advanced hiker.
Yes. They're part of what makes our route to The Pinnacle so special. Instead of simply driving to viewpoints, we hike through sandstone rock formations, narrow passages and the Wonderland Range before reaching The Pinnacle.
The tour departs from 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne at 7:30 AM. Please arrive around 10 minutes early so our small group can leave Melbourne on time.
Lunch is purchased separately. We stop in Beaufort for coffee and to pick up lunch to carry on the hike, then enjoy it at The Pinnacle with views across Halls Gap and the surrounding ranges. If you have dietary requirements, let us know when booking.
Wild kangaroos are commonly seen around Halls Gap and we visit one of our favourite areas to look for them, but they're genuinely wild animals so sightings can never be guaranteed.
Our tours attract travellers who enjoy hiking, nature, wildlife and discovering places properly. Because the Grampians day includes a real hike, it naturally attracts active, curious people, and the small group makes it easy to meet like-minded travellers from around the world.
Tours generally operate in changing weather, but mountain conditions can affect walking tracks and viewpoints. One advantage of travelling with a small group and local guide is that we can adjust the itinerary when necessary for safety, weather or track closures.
Bring comfortable trainers or hiking shoes, at least 1 litre of water, warm layers, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Bring a small day bag to carry your water and the lunch you pick up in Beaufort. Conditions in the Grampians can change quickly, so dressing in layers is recommended.
Storage is limited in our small-group vehicle. Please contact us before booking if you need to bring anything larger than a small day bag.
Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours are generally non-refundable.
