Private Wilsons Prom tour FAQs

What makes this a private Wilsons Prom tour?

The vehicle and local hiking guide are exclusively for your group, with up to 10 guests. Follow our recommended hiking itinerary or contact us before booking to discuss a day shaped around your group's interests and walking abilities.

How much does the private tour cost?

The recommended private Wilsons Prom day tour costs AUD $1,500 per vehicle for up to 10 guests. This is the total tour price for your group, not a per-person rate. Coffee, lunch and personal expenses are purchased separately. For a customised itinerary, we will confirm the plan and price before you book.

Is hotel pickup included?

Hotel pickup is included in Melbourne CBD and at accommodation within approximately 5 km by road of the CBD. Send us your address before booking so we can confirm whether it is within the pickup area. The distance is by road, rather than a straight-line radius.

Where do we meet if we are outside the hotel pickup area?

Our usual central meeting point is 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. We will confirm your pickup location and departure time before the tour.

Can we customise the itinerary?

Yes. Contact us beforehand with your preferred date, group size, interests and walking experience. We can discuss changes to the walks and stops, subject to travel time, track access, weather and what is practical in a day. Please arrange significant changes before booking.

How much walking is involved?

The recommended itinerary includes around 12 km of walking across two hikes and shorter walks. Terrain includes coastal trails, beaches, uphill mountain tracks, steps and uneven surfaces. Distances may change with conditions or an agreed customised itinerary.

How difficult is the hiking?

The recommended day includes Grade 3 walking and suits people with a reasonable level of fitness who are comfortable walking for several hours. Expect uphill sections, steps and uneven surfaces. Tell us about any concerns before booking so we can discuss the right route for your group.

Can you cater for different walking abilities or children?

Let us know the ages, walking experience and needs of everyone in your group before booking. We can discuss shorter walks or a less strenuous itinerary where practical. The standard hiking route is not step-free, and a private booking does not change the terrain.

Do we hike Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop?

Our recommended itinerary includes one of these summit hikes. The choice depends on weather, track access and your agreed plan. If you have a preference, tell us before booking and we will discuss what is possible.

Where do we have lunch?

We stop in Meeniyan for coffee and to buy picnic supplies. After the summit hike, we enjoy lunch at the top of Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop. If conditions are unsuitable, your guide will choose a more sheltered spot. Food is purchased separately and carried in your day bag.

Can we swim at Squeaky Beach?

You can bring swimmers and a towel, but swimming is not a guaranteed part of the itinerary. Whether it is suitable depends on ocean and weather conditions, available time and your guide's advice on the day.

Will we definitely see wombats and kangaroos?

We make time to look for wildlife, including wombats, kangaroos, wallabies and emus. They are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Your guide will help you enjoy any encounters from a respectful distance.

What time does the tour depart and return?

For the recommended itinerary, we suggest leaving Melbourne at approximately 7:30 AM and returning around 7:30 PM. Exact times depend on your pickup location, agreed route, traffic and conditions. This is a full day with a substantial drive in each direction.

What happens in bad weather?

Weather and track conditions can affect summit access, coastal walks and beach stops. Your guide may adjust the itinerary for safety or closures. We will discuss any significant changes with you.

What should we bring?

Bring comfortable hiking shoes or trainers with good grip, water, warm layers, a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Each person should have a small day bag with room for the picnic lunch bought in Meeniyan. Bring swimmers and a towel if you would like the option, conditions permitting.

Can we bring luggage?

Vehicle storage is limited. Please contact us before booking if you need to bring anything larger than a small day bag.

How do we book, and what are the cancellation terms?

Send an enquiry with your preferred date, number of guests, pickup address and any itinerary requests. We will confirm availability, the itinerary, price and private-tour booking and cancellation terms before you book.
